Thankful Turkey Display

It's the time of the year when we begin voicing all that we are thankful for...   Today was no exception!  I love sharing a little more about myself with the kidlets as we grow in our second year together. I'm truly thankful for this wonderful group of kids!

We created this bulletin board display this afternoon while in rained on our recess fun.  Don't you just love their little faces has they say, "GOBBLE, GOBBLE"?

 I began a discussion on being thankful using the images below.  I displayed the images on the board and had the kids make connections to their own lives.  I really feel the kids walked away understanding what it means to be thankful.  Following our discussion, we colored the pages so that we will have a cute placemat for our stew next week. I pulled this activity together at the last minute (thinking quick as the sun disappeared and being inspired by a cute pin that led me here). It's not perfect but you can see it does the trick.  I sure hope you have a wonderful holiday week!  Click the image below for the freebie file!

Five Little Monkeys {Final -e} Freebie

Hey guys!  I'm gonna keep it short and sweet.  Last week we worked on Final -e.  The activity completed turned out fun and oh so cute {to me}.  Knock out Common Core Standard RL.1.3c with a little fun!

Here are a few music videos used throughout the week...

. .
. .

My skills block is 30 minutes.  I have 10 minutes dedicated to Michael Haggerty and 20 minutes for our skills focus.  With that being said, we have to boogie to get everything complete.  The day of the Five Little Monkeys lesson, the kids I enjoyed singing to Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed.

Following the video, I created a chart with the name of each monkey.  Model expectations by writing one word for each name.  Before selecting the word to chart, I asked for kids to popcorn out ideas for each name.  Students relied on their knowledge of rhyming words. I selected the word mete {referenced repeatedly by students}. Just to clarify, it’s a real word…

{a verb: dispense or allot justice, a punishment, or harsh treatment.}

I selected this word for a teachable moment, sharing all spellings and their meanings. Students were sent to work in groups to come up with four additional words.  Upon completion of the activity, the class met whole group to add their list of words on our anchor chart!

I prepared everything you need in a little freebie...

Verbs {Interactive Journal Pages and Centers}

This coming week my kids will be working on VERBS, so I created a fun little verb pack to support our learning. Included in the 66 page file are K-2 Interactive Journal Pages, a lesson idea, and multiple tiered centers for different learners.

Life Science Interactive Notebooks

Do you incoporate interactive notebooking in your classroom?  It's a district requirement for me!  I started working on an Interactive Science Notebook.  I posted my Life Science Interactive Notebook this past week.  The kids journals are more than organized!  My kiddos were bragging to the instructional review team that they have a science pop up book they're creating.  LOL!!!

Here's my newest file...
